ATS formatting check
Is your CV ATS-friendly?
Upload your CV and we'll check it against the formatting rules UK ATS systems and recruiters use — no job description needed.
File format
.docx is the most widely accepted by UK recruiters and ATS. PDFs usually work too, but .txt loses your formatting.
Two-page rule
Two pages maximum is the UK standard. Senior executives may push to three, but everyone else should stay tight.
Clear section headings
Professional Summary, Key Skills, Work Experience / Employment History, Education & Qualifications. Parser-friendly names beat fancy ones.
British English
Organisation, Colour, Specialise, Analyse. American spellings read as unpolished to UK recruiters.
No personal data
Date of Birth and Marital Status must never appear (Equality Act 2010). Age, race, religion and photos should stay off too.
Contact info at the top
Name, phone number, professional email and city — visible in the header so the recruiter never hunts for them.
Reverse-chronological
Most recent role first, each with clear start–end dates. Recruiters and ATS both expect this order.
Degree classifications
State your UK classification (1st, 2:1, 2:2) prominently. Recent graduates should list A-Levels and GCSEs too.
Quantified achievements
Use £, % and volumes instead of 'responsible for'. Numbers are what recruiters skim for.
Simple layout
Heavy tables, columns, text boxes and graphics can break older ATS parsers. Clean single-column layouts parse best.
